Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between international aid and political dynamics in Afghanistan, and to identify factors influencing food self-sufficiency in the country. This is because the food crisis in Afghanistan is a complex problem, influenced by various political, economic, social, and cultural factors. The Taliban's takeover of power worsened the food security system with repressive policies that limited community participation, especially women. This study uses a literature review approach with dependency theory and a capability approach as its analytical framework. The results found that foreign aid interventions are often accompanied by political interests, which exacerbate Afghanistan's dependence on external parties. This study also found that the success of food self-sufficiency in Afghanistan is highly dependent on systemic improvements within the country and expanding the community's capabilities to fulfill the basic right to food sustainably. This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of international aid dependency and local capacity development in the context of food security.
