Abstract

Corruption remains one of the most significant barriers to sustainable economic development in Indonesia. Despite the nation's abundant natural resources and large market potential, corruption continues to undermine economic growth, disrupt social welfare, and hinder efficient resource allocation. This study aims to examine the impact of corruption on Indonesia's economic development, particularly focusing on its influence on economic growth, income inequality, and the effectiveness of public sector projects. By analyzing secondary data from various sources, including the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), economic growth indicators, and Gini index measurements, this research reveals a significant negative relationship between corruption and economic performance. The findings indicate that higher corruption levels lead to slower economic growth, exacerbate income inequality, and decrease the quality of essential public services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The study further emphasizes the need for stricter law enforcement, increased transparency in budget allocation, and enhanced public participation in monitoring government projects. These efforts are essential for mitigating the adverse effects of corruption and promoting equitable and sustainable economic development in Indonesia.
